Sketching & Oil Pastels

No matter where you’re starting from, everyone can learn to draw. In this 5-week module, you’ll learn basic drawing skills including shaping, shading, perspectives, showing light, and extending into oil pastels for vibrant colour.

Where sketches are quick studies of objects, drawing digs deeper into the finer details of your subject for a more realistic outcome.

Watercolor painting of a thin branch with small blue and brown birds perched on it, and additional branches in the background.

Watercolour

A playful yet serious painting style, watercolour is steeped in transparency and interesting expressions. From tight realism to loose movements, watercolour provides an exciting and enjoyable challenge for beginners and seasoned artists alike. The delightful interplay of transparent colours, patterns, creativity and the sometimes unexpected way that water moves with colour pigments will inspire you. Learn fundamental techniques that enhance the natural beauty of watercolour.

An Impressionist-style painting of a tranquil pond with lily pads and purple flowers, surrounded by trees with vibrant autumn foliage, and a small wooden bridge in the background.

Acrylic

Acrylic painting is a versatile medium that makes a great starting point for beginners. Because acrylics dry much quicker than watercolours, artists can experiment with layers without mixing the colours. Acrylics are known for their bright colours, many of which are the same as oil paints and can be almost indistinguishable.

Whether you prefer realism or abstract, once you’ve learned the basic techniques of acrylic painting, you can let your creativity flow.
